The Preston Valley Artisan Trail Committee Members
-
Janelle Barnes - Committee Member
I joined the Preston Valley Artisan Trail committee as a founding member of the original art trail, driven by the vision to showcase the amazing art and craft in our area and celebrate the vibrant creativity that thrives here.
Art has always been a cornerstone of my life. I hold a TAFE diploma in the arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from Edith Cowan University. One of my great joys is utilising the historical Yabberup Hall for craft sessions and indulging in another passion of mine: jam making.
As a multimedia artist, I specialise in lino prints on fabric, creating unique fashion and homewares, all crafted in my purpose-built Yabberup Studio.
Outside of my committee role, I produce a range of preserves under the Yabberup Studio label and enjoy working as a cellar door manager at a local winery.
My personal philosophy, ‘art is life, life is art,’ guides my work and interactions. Growing up in an era of old-fashioned values and handmade traditions—dressing the table, making clothes, and cooking multicultural dishes with fresh produce—has deeply fostered my creativity.
An interesting fact about me is that my father's Dutch heritage has inspired my love for folk art, particularly with a Scandinavian influence.

Ellie Clare - Committee Member - Marketing
Joining the Preston Valley Artisan Trail committee has been a wonderful journey for me. My passion for everything creative led me to seek a community project that would reignite my creativity, and this role has been the perfect fit.
My background in the arts and community involvement started early. Growing up in a family of artists, musicians, and performers, it was inevitable that I would pursue something artistic. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep passion for graphic design and photography.
When I'm not busy with committee duties, you’ll likely find me hiking with my dog and camera, meditating, or connecting with nature. I don't have much time off because I truly love what I do, and even my downtime is spent immersed in creativity.
My philosophy in life and work is simple: always be kind, no matter the circumstances, because you never know what someone else might be going through. This guiding principle has shaped my interactions and endeavours, fostering a positive and supportive community spirit.
An interesting and personal fact about me is that in 2015, I survived a suicide attempt after a severe accident left me with a broken back. My dog saved my life, giving me a purpose and a reason to keep going. Every day, I strive to give him the best life possible and help others navigate their dark times. LIFE IS WORTH LIVING!

Cynthia Dix - Committee Member
Coordinator – Preston Valley Artisan Trail -2019-2023
Cynthia is a practicing artist with a background in marketing and journalism. When the artists who had participated in the 2018 Trail decided they wanted to continue and grow the energy created by the first trail, Cynthia put her hand up to be coordinator.
Working with Bev Gudice , a new committee and the Yabberup Craft Group, they faced the initially daunting (because they’d never done it before) task of appealing for a major events grant from the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup. This was successful as was a subsequent grant from Donnybrook Community Bank – Bendigo Bank.
With her advertising and marketing background, Cynthia designed and produced artwork for advertising and promotional material as well as gaining some regional television coverage.
Cynthia is the first to admit that coordinating the Trail can be an overwhelming task or many tentacled monster. Nevertheless, she did the job and somehow also managed to become a participant, firstly opening her own studio in Mumballup and subsequently being hosted by Sally Young Design just up the road.
Cynthia and the Committee are very proud of the success of the Preston Valley Artisan Trail over the past few years and has now handed the reins to Ellie. “Fortunately or unfortunately, I work like an artist, driven more by impulse than design, and would find myself overwhelmed at times. I know that Ellie with her brilliant grasp of contemporary marketing methods will successfully drive the Trail to the next level”

Marnie Doak - Committee Secretary
As the Secretary of the Preston Valley Artisan Trail committee, I bring a deep love for the arts and a strong commitment to community involvement. Recently, I have discovered a new passion for woodworking, adding another layer to my artistic endeavours.
Outside of my committee role, I enjoy spending time reading, playing board games, knitting, and walking around our farm. These activities allow me to relax and recharge, while also fuelling my creative spirit.
A personal philosophy that guides my work and interactions is: You never know what is going on in someone's life, so try not to judge them. This belief underpins my approach to both personal and professional relationships, fostering empathy and understanding.
An interesting fact about me that others may find surprising or engaging is that I enjoy ringing handbells with the Brookhampton Bell Ringers every Thursday night. This unique hobby adds a joyful and musical dimension to my life, reflecting my appreciation for the arts in all its forms.

Bev Giudici - Committee President
I joined the Preston Valley Artisan Trail committee because of my long-standing involvement with the Yabberup community. I have been a committee member of the Yabberup Community Association since 2008, became Vice President in 2012, and have served as President since 2013. Additionally, I joined the Yabberup Craft Group as a founding member in 1999 and became Treasurer in 2007.
My background in the arts and community involvement includes participating in the 2018 Promote Preston exhibition, Art… Naturally, which highlighted the Preston River Valley and showcased textile fine art from the area. I entered a felt picture and assisted at the event. The following year, the Yabberup Craft Group organised the event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Yabberup Community Group, and I have been heavily involved ever since.
I am particularly passionate about quilting—essentially cutting up material and sewing it back together! I also enjoy participating in any events held at the Yabberup Hall, as it is central to our community.
Outside of my committee role, I love gardening and working on my family farm. The valley where I live, and the people here hold a special place in my heart.
An interesting fact about me is that, together with my sister Glenyse, we run a market stall called Lazy Daisy Stitching, showcasing our various home-sewn clothes and wares.

Karen Lambeck - Committee Member
I joined the Preston Valley Artisan Trail committee because I am passionate about promoting the beautiful area we live in and wanted the opportunity to be a part of this exciting annual event. With a rich background in health and wellness, and genuine interest in community involvement, I have been running wellness retreats and a successful raw treat business for several years. My dedication to health and wellness is matched only by my love for sharing our stunning nature retreat with visitors.
When I’m not working on the committee, you’ll find me managing our farm, meeting new people, and sharing my enthusiasm for healthy cooking. I firmly believe that nature is the best healer, and this philosophy guides all my work and interactions.
An interesting fact about me is that I celebrated my 50th birthday by parachuting out of a plane! This adventurous spirit reflects my approach to life – always embracing new experiences and challenges.
